After seven years of efforts and thanks to the willpower of some true playenses, government and private initiative, Playa del Carmen will have the first Metropolitan Park of its kind in Quintana Roo, which will be thematic, self-sustainable, and free for the local community.
This was reported to Quinta Fuerza by Councilor Orlando Muñoz Gómez, who explained that this is a great achievement because the project will entail a strong investment by Mayakoba. “The land belongs to Solidaridad City Council, and it is adjacent to the donation area that Mayakoba delivered. What had been holding us back at this time were the negotiations of the executive project carried out by this group, which today they have delivered as a donation for the cost of the project. That was all, now we can move to the next step, which is to get environmental permits ”.
At the same time, he explained that it will finally be a reality. “It's been a fight for almost seven years and now it was possible to untangle it. The next step is to look for the environmental permits and later create a Civil Association because the main idea is for the Metropolitan Park to be sustainable and for Mayakoba to have interference to keep the park running smoothly. We see that many times parks collapse because they are not properly maintained, there is no investment in them”.
What will it be like and when could work begin?
The councilor informed that this park will have more than nine hectares of green areas, developed with harmony in an area that will not be concrete, but wooded.
This property would be managed by a board of trustees and the excellent news is that there will be more investment. “First it had been agreed that Mayakoba would give 15 million pesos for the first stage and the city council would put another 15 million. Today, Mayakoba's director, gave the news that they will assume 50% of the total cost of the project, that is, more than 100 million pesos ”.
The other good news is that this park will not be privatized, since the City Council owns the land and as such, decides what to do with the park. “It will not be charged, it will not be privatized and it will be open to absolutely all the population of Solidaridad. It will be a unique theme park in the state ”.

He announced that is possible the project can be tendered this year and endorsed by 2021 so the budget can be assigned.
It should be said that almost 7 years ago the first stone of this park was laid with Mauricio Góngora, but it did not go beyond just being a stone, and today it became a reality. The interviewee stressed that he has always promoted this park, and fortunately a group of councilors has supported this proposal, which will now be consolidated with political will.
Previously, the official published his gratitude to those who have supported this work: “El Parque Metropolitano, va! Today we witnessed the signing of the donation agreement, we managed to get Mayakoba to donate 50% of the total value of the park. Thanks to the councilors and officials, especially to the social activists, Dr. Alfonso Redondo, Jorge Paleta, architect Antonio Salivar. Your presence strengthens the government actions
