Many wait for retirement to be able to have the time to do a lot of activities that they could not before, they hope to rest on a beautiful beach with a pleasant climate twelve months of the year, or simply spend the strong winters away from the snow, whatever the reason Riviera Maya got you covered.
Mexico has been consolidated for several consecutive years as one of the top 3 best countries for retirement abroad according to the Annual Global Retirement Index of International Living magazine, and especially Riviera Maya is, within Mexico, the preferred destination for retirees every year. Today I'm going to tell you why.
1.- Medical Service
As I had already said in our previous blog about medical tourism, Mexico is second place in world medical tourism, and Quintana Roo heads the national list since Cancun has triple approved international certification; the national, the United States and Canada, which offers greater guarantees when you need medical service
And once you acquire citizenship, you can opt for a national health system.
2.- Privileged location
Riviera Maya is located in a special area for retirees from the United States and Canada, first of all, it has wonderful weather 12 months of the year, which means you can enjoy outdoor activities all year round. At the same time, it has easy access to the Cancun international airport, the second busiest in the country, and this is a benefit since the enormous number of daily flights, it is easier to find affordable flights to any part of the world.
So from here, you could return home whenever necessary, but also use it as a springboard to visit other countries or cities within Mexico.
3.- Vacations in Riviera Maya every single day!
One of the great advantages of Riviera Maya is the high amount of touristic, natural, cultural, and historical attractions to be able to do any given day and at a short distance. Although the Riviera Maya is world-renowned for the beauty of its Caribbean beaches, the activities and places found in the area are limitless. Imagine that one day you can go to Xpu-Ha Beach, and the next day to a cenote in Playa del Carmen, or enjoy the Archaeological Zone of Tulum, all in less than 40 minutes!

4.- Cost of living
Although the Riviera Maya is not the most affordable area in Mexico (partly thanks to item # 3 on this list) it is still a much cheaper place to live well than the United States or Canada. Of course, the cost of living can vary depending on your expenses and consumption, but in general, you can live comfortably with a lower budget.
Needing a lower monthly budget gives you the freedom to visit more places, do more trips, and more activities inside and outside the Riviera.
5.- Quality of life
And when you retire in Riviera Maya, there is a possibility of improving your quality of life since the lifestyle on this side of the planet is more relaxed and stress-free than big cities. You can go anywhere in the city in less than 15 minutes, sometimes on foot or bike. And the locals are so laid-back that push us all to slow down and leave behind the tied up life we had before.
Many of us who live here have stayed because we rediscovered the meaning of living in enviable weather, stress-free atmosphere, minimum traffic in the city, lots of nearby attractions, and a multicultural environment that makes it easier to become part of a community.
